TRAINERROAD SOFTWARE SOFTWARE
So, it didn't really work for me given my time constraints but I found the software easy to use, the workouts were pretty standard, and I did see some improvement while I used it. In addition, I didn't want to waste time doing FTP tests instead of riding. TrainerRoad was well structured but I had just had my first son and was unable to follow the structure as rigidly. Sincerely, a ‘serious’ FOP guy who ‘plays’ on Zwift.I used TrainerRoad for a period about 2 years ago and currently use Xert. Remember, triathletes tend to be pompous training snobs and often forget this fact - don’t worry, we’ve all been there. just raced in the e-Canadian Nationals this past Sunday). One thing I forgot recently is that the goal of this ridiculous sport is to actually have fun and enjoy what we do (especially in the off-season), and zwift is a hell of a lot more fun than TR (ex. I just couldn’t stand watching so much Netflix, literally made me feel lazy riding my bike! Love the guys though and the podcast is a great listen. TR has super structured plans (for cyclists) but seemed a little too demanding in my eyes. I started out on Zwift, went to TR for 2 years and now am back on Zwift and don’t see myself going back. Less than 2 minutes and you can create an assigned workout into Zwift. I can’t say much for their pre-programmed plans, as I haven’t tried them, but the workout creator is great and super easy to use. If you have a coach or training plan already, I don’t see why you wouldn’t be on Zwift. Zwift is much more interactive, stimulating, and in turn tends to be more fun. And for some motivation to train leads to better results while for others doing the hardcore work that gives results is motivation :) So in concluison it is individual what motivates you the most. But i might as well just watcha netflix movie/tv show at the same time, and do TR. Some people have coaches that create workouts for them to do in zwift, that would be ideal! I have ridden many of my workouts from TR in zwift, to break up the boredom. Yes zwift has workouts (FTP builder etc), but the structure of the workouts and the quality of each individual workout is SO bad/Horrible in some cases. you can do races too, but you dont make all your training races and I find that people once they have tried zwift for some time don't appreciate the interactivity as much.īut the reason why people say TR is that the structure of the training is so much better. There is love for both in the tri community. There’s a reason why both exist.Īnd i don't think what you represent is totally true. Try both out for a month and see which one you like. Maybe this forum just attracts people more inclined to trainerroad rather than one being “better” than the other. You can lie to make your avatar go faster, which also demotivated me. I don’t feel that motivated by the avatar and chasing because it has none of the nuances of outdoor riding in a group. It’s a mediocre outdoor ride replacement. Using erg mode and trainerroad forces you to do the work. I also get to binge on Netflix and am strapped in to the workout. I want to be fast and do it efficiently, therefore I trainerroad. If I want to have fun, I ride outside, sometimes with friends. I want results and trainerroad provides said results in a convenient format. I prefer it because I’ve studied the concepts of exercise physiology, understand the current best practices of training but have never really gone through the trouble because I’m lazy as far as planning goes. I guess I'm not sure what I'm missing here - spending hundreds of dollars on a smart trainer just to stare at the same stats you could with a dumb trainer and a power meter and it's not any more enjoyable.Ĭoach Chad talks to you through the text in the workout as you do TrainerRoad which is nice.

Hell, even with a smart trainer, the Garmin 520 can set smart trainer power via ANT+. From what I've seen, it's not too different than what I could do with my dumb trainer, creating workouts on Garmin Connect based on power and have it beep at me when I'm outside the power range.

There's nothing to look at besides a screen with stats and most people say they put on a movie or music. I was looking at TrainerRoad and I just don't get it. My first few rides (just free-riding) have been higher overall wattage than most of my outdoor rides as a result (plus, not being able to coast) and were way higher than my normal training rides indoors.
TRAINERROAD SOFTWARE PLUS
It's made my indoor rides so much more enjoyable, plus I get pushed by other cyclists as they pass me to keep up.
TRAINERROAD SOFTWARE TRIAL
I started my free trial of Zwift and it's been a lot of fun. When I was researching the different software that can control the trainer, I kept running into various triathlon posts saying to go with TrainerRoad - I can't understand why.

This past weekend, I picked up an Elite Qubo Digital Trainer.
